Game 2
Newton, MA- The Lasell University softball team celebrated their seniors on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling sweep against Mitchell College.
Game 1-
Game 1 was a gritty, defense-tested win where pitching ultimately carried the Lasers to a 3-2 victory.
Abigail Fortin went the distance in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing just four hits and one run. She worked around four walks and struck out five, keeping the Mariners off balance enough to secure the 3–2 victory and earn her eighth win of the season.
Offensively, the team put together eight hits but had to grind for runs. Emma Tarleton led the way with a two-hit performance and scored once, while Ashlyn McCampbell also added a pair of hits. Riley Michael chipped in with a double and scored, and Emily Stilwell delivered the team's lone RBI.
The difference came from timely base running and taking advantage of opportunities. Keira Midgley made an impact as a pinch runner, crossing the plate for a key run, and Madalen Brown added pressure on the bases with a stolen base.
Game 2-
Lasell walked it off in extras to secure a 5–4 win in a back-and-forth Game 2 battle that stretched into the 10th inning.
Both teams traded runs early, with Lasell matching Mitchell's first-inning score and taking a slight edge in the third. Mitchell stayed within striking distance and eventually forced extras with a run in the ninth, tying the game at 3–3. In the 10th, Mitchell pushed across a run to take a 4–3 lead, but Lasell responded in dramatic fashion with two runs to seal the comeback victory.
The Lasers offense was steady throughout, finishing with 11 hits. McCampbell led the way with a strong 3-for-5 performance and 2 RBIs, while Tarleton and Adreanna Ventullo each drove in key runs. Alyssa Bland sparked the offense at the top with two hits and three stolen bases, part of an aggressive baserunning effort that saw Lasell rack up multiple steals across the lineup.
In the circle, Shyanne Raccio delivered a strong start, going 8.1 innings and allowing just two runs while working around five walks. Fortin came on in relief and closed the door, earning the win after finishing the final 1.2 innings.
Up Next- The Lasers will be back in action on Wednesday April 22 when they head to Worcester State.
