NEWTON, Mass. (9/24/16) -- The Lasell College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.
The Lasers slip to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in GNAC play, while the Cadets improve to 4-3-2 and 1-0-2 in conference with their second consecutive road win.
Lasell sophomore Kenan Omerbasic (Windsor Locks, Conn.) registered the first shot on goal of the game less than three minutes in, but the visitors took six consecutive shots and earned two corner kicks before taking a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Matt Hilton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) got the Cadets on the scoreboard first, off a deflection at the tail end of the 17th minute. Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) added to his team-leading points total with an assist on the goal, his second of the season, and 98th career point.
The Cadets' lead doubled just under seven minutes later at 23:57, as junior Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.) crossed the ball into the box where senior Moab Schiers (South Weber, Utah) fired a shot past Lasell freshman goalkeeper Patrick McAvoy (Stony Point, N.Y.) for his first goal of the season.
Lasell finished on the opposite end of a 17-5 shots margin and did not put a shot on goal in the first half. Omerbasic nearly put in his third goal of the season past Norwich senior Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) in the 42nd minute, but the score remained 2-0 as his shot pinged off the post.
The Lasers could not convert in the second half, despite forcing Whaley to make four saves. Junior Noah Schiers (South Weber, Utah) added to the Norwich lead at 57:38, scoring an unassisted goal that deflected past McAvoy.
Omerbasic led the Lasers with five shots, while senior Matteo Frazzoni (Southampton, Bermuda) put two of his three shots on net. McAvoy made ten saves in goal, including seven in the first half.
Zimmerman and M. Schiers each took six shots and put three on net for Norwich. Whaley made all four of his saves in the second half and earned his second win in as many appearances.
Lasell returns to action on Tuesday, September 27 as they head into Boston to face non-conference foe Wheelock College at 7:00 p.m. Norwich begins a five-game homestand that same night against Plymouth State.
